UMBC has shocked the world. The Retrievers defeated Virginia 74-54 just a little while ago and became the first No. 16 seed to ever win a tournament game. The vaunted Virginia defense, supposedly the best in the country, was nowhere to be found as UMBC was raining threes all game, shooting 50% from behind the arc.
This is simply incredible. Everyone who watches March Madness has been waiting for this moment to finally come. It is so perfect that, coming into the tournament, everyone (including myself) was saying that "Penn could be the first No. 16 seed to win,” and a different team pulls it off the next day against the number one overall seed. This very well could be the greatest upset in sports history. March Madness is simply amazing.
