Pat Neshek is the Weirdest Athlete in America

A couple of days ago, Major League Baseball's most infamous memorabilia collector took to Twitter to remind us once again just how freaking weird he is.

Just to be clear, that isn’t an 11-year-old boy living in the Bronx in 1934. That’s Pat Neshek, Major League All-Star.

I mean, come on. This is so weird. He’s a grown man giddy about finding a baseball card. Scratch that, he’s a Major League All-Star and he’s giddy about finding the baseball card of a rookie. A 23-year-old. A guy who hasn’t even played in the league yet. I did zero digging and I don’t plan on pursuing this any further, but it’s also 2016 and companies don’t exactly keep cards super exclusive anymore. It’s not a Honus Wagner card. There are more than just six printed or whatever it is. So what’s cool about that? Nothing. Pat Neshek is a nerd. A weird nerd.

It isn’t just with Ohtani either. The dude is addicted to collecting baseball cards and autographs. He used to have a website that rivaled draftjoshallen.com in comedic value, but it has tragically been erased from the internet. The website contained pages and pages of thousands and thousands of autographs and cards of players that Neshek has collected over the years. The cards of guys he played with and competed against were bragged about as rare collectibles on his internet wall. Imagine being a guys teammate and having him ask for your autograph? The only time I would condone such a situation would be if there was an unbelievable disparity in both fame and talent between the asker and the receiver. A Boynton-Zinck situation if you will.

Whatever––I’m not mad about it. It’s funny watching nerds like Neshek get mentally shoved into lockers. The perfect example of this is last season when Zack Greinke refused to sign an autograph for Neshek after leading him on on numerous occasions. Apparently, Greinke had told Neshek that he would sign for him at the All-Star game, but then just refused to do so. When Neshek freaked out about it on a memorabilia blog, Greinke doubled down and told him that he would never sign an autograph for him. A savage move, honestly.
