Boston Sports Hot Takes of the Week

Spring has arrived, and many Boston sports fans are on the precipice of cardiac arrest due to overstimulation from baseball action, juicy football offseason rumors and signings, and the fast-approaching NBA and NHL playoffs. With all this excitement in the air, it’s time to extrapolate some comfortably hot takes from what has been an already interesting April.

Boston Red Sox:

My hot take on the Red Sox is that in the next 26 games, the Red Sox will beat the 1939 Yankees’ record of best start through 36 games (29-7). The Sox have started the 2018 season like a firecracker––hot and explosive––as they obliterated the Yankees 14-1 on national television, their offense is finally hitting its stride, and their pitching has been downright unfair through 10 games.

Boston Celtics:

The Boston Celtics are going to win the Eastern Conference Finals this year. There, I said it. Without Kyrie Irving or Gordon Hayward, Boston’s young core will propel this team past everyone’s expectations, as they’ve done all year, and squeeze their way into the NBA Finals. The trend is upward for this Celtics team, and after making it to the ECF last year with an undoubtedly less talented roster (even with the Irving and Hayward injuries this year), I wouldn’t count the C’s out from an NBA Finals appearance a year too early.

New England Patriots:

The past couple of months have been a bit of a whirlwind for Pats fans––a Super Bowl loss, Butler, Soldier, and Lewis leaving, Gronk retirement rumors, DC Patricia going to Detroit, more Brady-Belichick-Kraft animosity, and most recently the acquisition of another first-round pick in exchange for Brandin Cooks. However, of all the hot takes I could muster up, I would say this one makes the most sense: The Patriots will forego Belichick’s drafting tendencies and move up in the 1st round to draft a big name QB. Someone like Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, or Baker Mayfield. Hm…

Boston Bruins:

Listen, I’m not going to pretend to know a lot about hockey––I don’t. However, I do know that the Bruins are very good, which is why it’s not really a hot take to say they’ll win the Cup this year (Boston is third in Vegas to win it at +600 via Kay, Forbes). My comfortably hot take about the Bruins is that they’ll lose in the first round to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sure, they’re good enough to win it, but the reason it’s a comfortably hot take is because the Bruins have historically choked in the playoffs (see 2010 Eastern Conference Semis vs. Philadelphia Flyers).
