EMERGENCY BLOG: Cowboys Release Dez Bryant

NFL insider Adam Schefter broke the news a short time ago that star wide receiver Dez Bryant will be released by the Dallas Cowboys.

Dez Bryant responded to his release with a tweet storm including these posts:

This move won’t hurt the Cowboys very much, since they have decided to underuse Dez under the unfortunate reign of Dak Prescott. As I have said many times, the Cowboys should have kept Tony Romo and traded Dak Prescott, but they didn’t listen!

Although many--like my co-host Tucker Boynton--question the greatness of Dez Bryant (unbelievable, I know) I just don’t understand how anyone could denigrate one of the best receivers of our time. It’s beyond me.

Now that Dez is free, the questions becomes: Where will he go?

I think the 49ers are the best fit. They’ve paid Jimmy Garoppolo a ton of money, but they haven’t surrounded him with the necessary talent (although I do love the addition of Jerick McKinnon). With Dez Bryant in San Francisco, one could only imagine what the 49ers would do. The big 3 of Jimmy G, McKinnon, and Dez would be enough to not only get them into the playoffs, but it would even make them a contender for the NFC title.

Another team I’ve pondered is the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags have an elite defense, but as we know they have their struggles on the offensive side of the ball. They lost Allen Robinson in Week 1 of the 2017 season and decided to let him go this offseason. Furthermore, they decided to move on from Allen Hurns, who was actually a pretty decent receiver contrary to popular opinion. Now their top two guys are Marqise Lee and the newly acquired former Colt and All-Scott Team member Donte Moncrief. I like both of them, but neither is a #1 receiver. Adding Dez to the already defensively-stacked Jaguars would make them a very serious threat to the Patriots; you could even make the case for them being the favorite.

Other interesting landing spots for Dez include the Panthers and Ravens. The Panthers are in a “win-now” situation but lack any serious offensive weapons aside from Christian McCaffrey, while the Ravens have given Joe Flacco very little to work with in recent years and adding Dez Bryant would be a needed change.
