It’s no secret that Patriots’ tight end Rob Gronkowski is considering retirement. When asked about his potential retirement by a reporter following the Super Bowl loss to the Eagles, Gronkowski said, “I’m definitely going to look at my future. We’ll sit down in the next couple of weeks and see where I’m at.”
According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, Gronkowski has been pondering retirement for some time now, as Darlington reported that “weeks before [the AFC title game], Gronkowski was telling people around him the toll on his body was making him lean toward the potential that this was his last season. This is a very serious thing for Gronkowski at this point. He will certainly continue to contemplate retirement.”
Of course this is frightening for Patriots fans, but how could Gronk leave football? What else would he do? He needs to make money somehow.
Well, here you go…
WWE insider Dan Meltzer is now reporting that "WWE is willing to offer a similar style deal to Gronkowski that they offered to Ronda Rousey” and a close friend of Gronkowski told TMZ that "[Gronk joining WWE is] not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.”
This news comes after a report by EagleTribune.com, which indicated that Gronk is considering retiring and taking his “talents” to Hollywood. The report claims that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Sylvester Stallone have told Gronkowski that he could be incredibly successful acting in action movies. Of course, Gronk’s Dunkin Donuts commercials suggest otherwise.
Of course, as a Patriots fan, I am extremely troubled by these reports. Losing the greatest tight end of all time for nothing would certainly be a massive blow. That being said, as a person I can’t help but support these potential moves by Gronkowski. He has suffered so many serious injuries over the years and continues to be dealt massive blows on the football field that one has to wonder what his body will be like in 10, 20, or 30 years, especially with the continuing revelations regarding the connection between football and CTE.
Despite these reports, I do believe that Gronk will be back in 2018, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s his final year.
