Saturday Roundup: Odell caught on tape, all in on the Browns, and more…

Updated: Apr 23, 2018

Odell: Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. was caught on tape engaging in certain activities he should not have been. It appeared, in the video you can watch here, that Odell was smoking marijuana, and it looked like the woman next to him had some sort of white substance. Obviously, Odell should not have put himself in this situation--you’re an NFL star and a grown man; please take some responsibility for yourself and not get caught on tape doing this stuff. Or here’s a bright idea--maybe just don’t do it at all. With that being said, one has to wonder where discretion and privacy have gone in our society. Who does this person think she is posting this video? I don’t condone what Odell appeared to be doing, but can we please exercise some discretion? Does everything need to be made public?

Browns: The Cleveland Browns had a tremendous Friday. Among others, they traded for Jarvis Landry and Tyrod Taylor. Here’s Adam Schefter explanation of the full scope of their moves. To me, the Browns now have the talent to be a respectable NFL team. If they draft Saquon Barkley #1 overall, they’ll be looking at a, dare I say, stacked offense. Sure, Tyrod Taylor isn’t necessarily anything to write home about, but he’s a solid veteran quarterback who will have amazing weapons in Josh Gordon, Jarvis Landry, Corey Coleman, and Saquon Barkley. I made this prediction yesterday and will reiterate it: the Browns are a playoff team if they draft Saquon Barkley. I understand that betting on the Browns isn’t the smartest move (and I assure you Freezing Cold Takes has this take in its archives), but I think the talent is good enough that even the 1-31 Hue Jackson can’t mess it up.

49ers sign Sherman: The 49ers signing of cornerback Richard Sherman is another display of the meteoric rise of San Francisco under the reign of Jimmy Garoppolo. The skeptics will say that Sherman is old (32 now) and that his recent achilles injury makes him an unknown. I get that argument, but I still believe that Sherman will return to his former self for at least a couple more seasons. The 49ers are also rumored to be in contention for the services of Jaguars star Allen Robinson and Patriots running back Dion Lewis. Clearly the 49ers are in a “win now” mode, which is something I wouldn’t have believed would if you had told me that a year ago (or really any time before the Jimmy G trade). I truly believe that the 49ers are a few offensive additions away from being real contenders. Could a Brady-Garoppolo Super Bowl be in store?

Mike Evans gets a massive deal: The Bucs gave Mike Evans a five year, 82.5 million dollar contract yesterday, even after a somewhat disappointing season from the star wideout. I’m not sure that, based on his production, Mike Evans entirely deserves to be the second highest paid WR in the NFL, but he certainly is a tremendous talent and utterly fantastic when at his best. Hopefully, he can fully realize his potential.

Baby Durant: Kevin Durant has once again proven himself to be a whiny little baby. During the Warriors-Trail Blazers game on Friday night, Durant was heckled by a fan, and this did not sit well with KD. Durant was offended and asked the refs to get the guy kicked out of the arena. Now, I have no idea what this guy said, but it couldn’t have been that bad, since Durant himself declared, “I don’t know what he said.” As the man was being walked out, Durant decided to blow kisses at him. Just an overall strange encounter.
